How to find happiness

Thinking about Tom Cruise (and we all have to sometime, whether we want to or not), the guy looks happy. Really happy.

With millions in the bank, and more fame than the rest of us could even begin to contemplate, Mr Cruise is a major success story for our times. The guy has done it. And what's more, he's happy.

How do we know he is happy? well, the signs are all there. And when I use the word 'signs', I mean his public behaviour, which as far as I can tell, has been nigh on impeccable since day one.

However, if we focus our minds on another movie star, say Clark Gable, whose life was typified by a painful lack of fulfillment, we can begin to piece together the clues that can help us understand how to find our own personal happiness.

What is happiness? Well if Gable had been happy he would have surely spent more time sober, for example. But if you read the linked article above, you will see that Clark simply did not know what he wanted from life.

He did not know how to find happiness.

You see, happiness only comes when you find fulfillment.

If we do not know what fulfillment feels like, we will not feel happy.

Test yourself. This is how you can answer the question: 'what is happiness?' Cast your mind back to a moment, or moments, when you have felt fulfilled. These can be recent events or times, or something years ago.

Let me give you an example. Many moons ago, there was one night when I really felt fulfilled. This was the night I won a major short fiction contest. I had dreams of being a great writer (this was before I had children and so on, although they fulfill me greatly, but more on that in a later post) and that night I felt like I had become finally fulfilled.

So I could answer the question what is happiness?

Because I was feeling it. Right there.

This post is already getting too long, but that is because we are setting something up. I want to come back to happiness again. But I want you to get in touch.

Tell me about a time you were fulfilled. If you read this post get in touch. When have you been fulfilled? And did it make you happy?

Because there is the acid test. Happiness comes from fulfillment.

I want to explore happiness. This is my most important post ever because I want to bring happiness back to the fore. I see so many unhappy people, and I think I have just found out a way to make them happy...

I will develop my thinking on this, and your thoughts will help...

So until next time, be happy...
